Saltmarsh Pavilion

A hide has to disappear. This one stands on larch stilts above the tide line at Fingringhoe Wick, clad in oak shingles that will go the colour of the mud. A horizontal slot at standing height opens to the creek; a second, lower slot is for children and wheelchair users.

The room is also a classroom. Benches fold down from the walls, and a wide door on the landward side opens the whole room to the marsh on still days.
